Tips on preparing editorial and
photographic material
With emails becoming one of the most
popular methods of submitting editorial material here are some guidelines worth
following when preparing material:-
- Type
material in upper and lower case. Do not submit material in all capital
letters.
- Do
not indent, use tabs and/or underline.
- Start
every sentence on a new line. Do not attempt to format or layout in paragraphs.
Do not use space bar to get to new line, only use Return/Enter key
- When
submiting results and using players names, incorporate their
Christian name,
it’s that much friendlier
- When
quoting teams place names in order of lead, second, third and skip last
- Do
not attempt to lay down and/or incorporate a photo within the body of the copy.
Transmit the photo as a separate attachment.
- Express
dates with the month first followed by the date eg September 25 2007
NOT
25 September 2007 or 25 / 9/ 07
Tips in taking photos:-
- Try
and avoid that straight up and down look with everyone standing upright like
tin soldiers.
- Lighten
up, look happy as if players have just won the lottery. Use a prop like holding
up a bowl, punching the air in excitement, thumbs up.
- Ask
players to remove sunglasses, hats and caps otherwise their faces are
invariably in shadow.
- Action
and impromptu shots of players bowling or measuring add a point of difference.
- Provide
captions for each photo quoting players full names from left to right as you
look at the photo.
- We
can scan good quality colour photos, otherwise send digital photos by email as
a separate attachment.
- Colour
photos are not returned to the sender unless by special request and arrangement
- Don’t
attempt to contrast/colour correct and/or crop digital photos as this is best
done by the publisher when setting out the pages
