If you haven’t got a computer and longhand
is your only method of submitting a story, do not hesitate to post it to Ducks
Crossing publications PO BOX 1056 Gosford and Bowls News will type it up
for you.
Font size and type is not critical but
preferably Arial 12pt.
The Bowls News publishing programme
requires every sentence to start on a new line. DO NOT use tabs,
paragraphs etc otherwise it will require relaying out before it can be
used.
Send copy and photos as separate
attachments. DO NOT attempt to layout your story with a photo embedded
within it.
Use full names as it is that much
friendlier. We appreciate the ladies State magazine only wants surnames
but we prefer Christian names as well.
When quoting teams use the sequence of
lead, 2nd, 3rd and skip fro left to right, or alternatively, quote skips
name first as Fred or Betty Smith’s team of Lead, 2nd and 3rd.
Guidelines
on taking and submitting photos
Please give
consideration to the following guidelines when taking and submitting photos to
Bowls News for publication: -
Try and avoid that tin soldier look with
everyone standing upright and to attention.
Try and capture that happy carefree look as
if players have just won the lottery.
Try and avoid that sameness look by using a
prop like holding a bowl, standing next the scoreboard with the final
score, punching the air in excitement, thumbs up, V for victory, shaking
hands etc
Ask players to remove sunglasses, hats and
caps otherwise their faces are invariably in shadow.
Face subjects into the sun to avoid
shadows. Using the flash in sunlight generally enhances facial features
and reduces facial shadows
Bowlers in action, impromptu shots of
players bowling, measuring or moments of excitement with high fives etc
adds variation and a point of difference.
Provide captions for each photo quoting
players full names from left to right as you look at the photo
Email high resolution digital photos as a
separate attachment to
This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
Do not attempt to digitally reduce photo
size as the higher the resolution the better it will reproduce
Conventional colour photos can be mailed to
Ducks Crossing PO Box 1056 Gosford for scanning. Colour photos are not
returned to sender unless accompanied by a self addressed and stamped envelope.
Do not attempt to correct contrast/colour
or crop digital photographs as this is best done by the graphic designer
when setting out pages of the magazine.
