Talent on Show in Under 18 Championships

Under 18 Fours Champions (l/r) Jarred Crane (Gwandalan), Zac Henley, Hayley McDonnell, Josh McDonnell (Halekulani).
The Under 18 Championships hosted by Ettalong Memorial BC from 10th - 13th April showcased the up and coming talent of our younger bowlers across the disciplines of Fours, Pairs and Singles.
In the Fours, Jarred Crane Gwandalan, Zac Henley, Hayley McDonnell & Josh McDonnell Halekulani combined well  to out play Blayne Cook, Bateau Bay, Brendon Willmette Gosford City and Jesse Rigby Mingara skipped by last year’s winner Bailey Meti from Ettalong.
The Pairs was played as a round robin with each team playing each other over the best of three games. The Halekulani brother and sister pair of Josh and Haley McDonnell proved to be a formidable combination and comfortably won all their games to claim their second Zone title in as many days.
The blue ribbon Singles final was contested by last year’s winner and U18 Bowler of the Year, Ettalong’s Bailey Meti  up against Halekulani‘s Josh McDonnell who was searching for a clean sweep and “Grand Slam” of the U18 titles. Both Bailey and Josh put on an outstanding display of draw bowling but it was Bailey’s consistency with four bowls that gave him the edge over Josh. He led all the way to take out the U18 singles title for the second consecutive year.
Under 18’s Coordinator Russell Johnston said, “The three days of Championships were a great success and congratulated all the players on the manner in which they played. He also thanked Ettalong Memorial BC for hosting the championships and sponsoring the various events.”
