In a monumental effort the BCC Open Representative Side won the last game against Zone 2 (Newcastle) by sufficient points to win the Trophy. Playing at Soldiers Point on the 12-13/08/2017 the BCC Side had a loss on the first morning to Zone 6 72-79 but won 81 to 67 against Zone 14 in the afternoon. To win the event they had to defeat Zone 2 on the Sunday morning by more that 11 shots. After 40 ends they were trailing by 15 shots. Then in a massive turn around the side steeled themselves to win the last 44 ends by 48 to 12.
It is true that yours truely was staffing the score board untill the 40th end then handed over the honours to the Newcastle pair and on seeing the turn around of the scores refused to go back on the board until the match was won.
In the first game against Zone 6 the only winning rink was Willingham, Williams, Robertson and Sherriff 21-17. McDonnell, Gibbin, Reynolds, Morrison lost 11-19. Edwards, Rewko, Trethowan, Cook lost 22-24. Starkey, Joss, Chapman and Shoebridge lost 18-19.
In the second game against Zone 14 Willingham, Williams, Robertson and Sherriff were the heros winning 28-10. McDonnell, Gibbin, Reynolds, Morrison lost 17-24. Edwards, Rewko, Trethowan, Cook lost 13-14. Starkey, Joss, Chapman and Shoebridge won 23-12.
In the last game against Zone 2 Willingham, Williams, Robertson and Sherriff won 24-13. McDonnell, Gibbin, Reynolds, Morrison won 26-18. Edwards, Rewko, Trethowan, Cook won 23-10. Starkey, Joss, Chapman and Shoebridge lost 14-21 but pulled their game together in the last half of their game to stop a major loss.
It was all about team work and the best team won.
