Volunteers Recognised

 The annual Bowls Central Coast Volunteer's Day was held at Bateau Bay BC on Monday (6th June 2022).   Twenty BCC Clubs and Affiliates were represented by a team and a nominee to receive an award from Bowls NSW for "Outstanding Volunteering".   The people nominated by their Clubs are the backbone of bowls administration in Clubs.  Without them lawn bowls would not happen.   

The day started with a game of bowls, then lunch.  With the presentation of awards held after lunch.   Awards were presented to the following people: 

Avoca Beach - David “ Swampy” Marsh.  Swampy has been coaching new players for several years and has now taken on the role of Club Coach at Avoca Beach B C, providing his service to both male and lady bowlers.

Bateau Bay - Dean Wilson.  Dean is a past President of the Club, joining May 1996, and has served on many committees. He assisted the Clubs office with his expertise in computers. He has served on Match Committee for several years, and runs Sunday Scroungers.

The Bay Bowlers - Enid Thearle. Enid joined Cencomas in the 1990s with husband Eric and The Bay Bowlers in 2003. Enid has been a tireless worker over the years and is still very active today."

Breakers Bowling Club Wamberal - Bryan Shirley . Bryan contributes immeasurably to the smooth running of his club through his positions as assistant bowls coordinator and welfare officer. His real care and compassion for people is reflected in everything that he does. 

Canton Beach Bowls - Lee Watson. Lee is the Clubs Bowls Secretary and has held the position of Vice President for the last 9 years serving on the Match Committee and as a Selector"

Central Coast Past Presidents Association - Pat Reynolds.  Pat has served in a number of roles on the club committee, never hesitating to put her hand up to assist with any particular task that needs to be done. 

Davistown RSL Bowling Club - Ben Hogan.  Ben is the Club Secretary and a tireless worker.

diggers @ the entrance John Silver.  John has been a Committeeman for 5 years getting to the club early to assist with the setting up of the green and the Beverage/Rest area. He also assists the Bowls Coordinator in the office.  

Everglades Country Club - Michael Redrup.  Mick is the secretary of the Club streamlining administration, communications and utilisation of IT resources.  He has been responsible for  building strong relationships with Country Club staff. Mick also works on the match committee. 

Gosford City - Allan Cragg. Allan has been at the forefront of volunteers who regularly participate in working bees to keep the green surrounds in good repair. He also helps in the office as a capable assistant to the Bowls Secretary. 

Gwandalan - Ted Hayes. Ted has been involved in Match and Selection committees for 10 years, Ted is a great guy who is always the first person to put his hand up to help out in any way.

Mingara Bowling Club - Alan Webb.  Alan is a member of the Club Committee. He is the photographer of special events and the computer  consultant.   He puts out bowling equipment and helps in the office on bowls days.

Munmorah - Josh Smith.  Josh turned 18 on Saturday and has been an important member of BCC’s junior squad.  At Munmorah he assists with coaching of Schools squads becoming an accredited Coach last year.  He also runs Social and Barefoot Bowls.

Terrigal - Warren Parkes.  Warren is the Club member who makes bowls happen at Terrigal.  He is the Bowls Secretary, Chairman of Match, Tournament Organiser, Delegate to the Zone, website manager, and Co-ordinator of social bowls activities.

The Entrance - Shane Reeves.  Shane always makes himself available to help in any way possible. From cleaning areas around the club, assisting with fundraising, to generally lending a hand where needed, Shane is there.

Umina Beach - Brian Butterworth.  Brian, a former pastor, was the Clubs welfare officer from 2013 to 2018.  During that time Brian performed funeral services for many members whose spouses had died.    In 2020 Brian became and remains the Club's Vice President.

Woy Woy Bowling Club - James Cook.  James is a wholly dedicated Life Member of our Club. A longstanding Zone Delegate and current Bowls President, he gives a tireless and total effort towards upholding the proud history of Woy Woy Bowling Club. We salute him!

Wyong BC – Pat O’Neil. Pat has been volunteering his time as Assistant Bowls Secretary and Selector for many years. He also runs our very successful Friday Twilight Bowls and regularly provides assistance with Barefoot Bowls.

Thanks are extended to Bateau Bay and President Kevin Russell for hosting of the event.  We were unfortunately unable to use the new covered green, but we were granted special permission to take the group photo on the new green.
