Hat Trick of Central Coast Pairs Titles

Ettalong’s Lee Trethowan and Aron Sherriff continue to rewrite the record books in winning the Bowls Central Coast Open Pairs title for the third consecutive year. They played fellow club mates Dave Derrick and Sam Chapman who had performed well throughout the sectional rounds to reach the final but found the Trethowan /Sherriff combination just too strong on the day. Having won the title in 2015 and 2016 and gone on to win the respective State titles, Trethowan and Sherriff now have their eyes set on a third State title and the opportunity to progress to the  inaugural Australian Championship titles to be played at Club Sapphire, Merimbula from 28-30th November 2017.

The Seniors Pairs final, for those players over 60 years of age, was contested between Terrigal’s Peter McCarten /Tony Shoebridge and Ettalong’s Graham Woodger/Phil Westcott. Both teams had performed strongly in the sectional rounds and were in search of their first Zone Seniors title. It was a tightly contested game and a number of dead ends reflected some aggressive shot play. McCarten /Shoebridge seemed to be in control and stretched their lead as the game progressed. It was a good win for the Terrigal duo who will now progress to the Bowls NSW State Senior Pairs Title to be played at Ettalong Memorial BC on 25-26 October 2017.

The President’s Pairs, for those Grade 5 pennant players and below, was contested by Mingara’s Barry Pike/Tom Townsend and Woy Woy’s Roger Townend/Jason Rigby. Both teams had performed strongly in the sectional rounds and were poised for a close tussle in the final. The Townend/ Rigby team led early only to see the Mingara lads claw their way back to 9 all after 12 ends. The Woy Woy team skipped away again to lead 15-12 after 18 ends but again Mingara’s duo leveled at 15 all on the 20th end. On the last end decider Barry Pike and Tom Townsend scored a match winning two shots to snare victory in a game befitting of a final. They will now contest the Bowls NSW State Final on the 21st -22nd October at Ettalong Memorial B C.
